In memory of David Boaz (Vanderbilt Class of 1975), former Executive Vice President of the Cato Institute, The Future of Free Speech is honored to receive a generous gift that will further its mission to promote and protect free expression worldwide.

Mr. Boaz, author of The Libertarian Mind, was a strong advocate of free speech, particularly emphasizing its importance in the “marketplace of ideas.” He highlighted the need to defend free speech against those on both sides of the political spectrum who seek to have governments ban or compel certain ideas. Mr. Boaz’s views on free speech were rooted in his broader libertarian beliefs, which emphasize individual liberty, limited government, and free markets.

“We are deeply grateful for this generous contribution in honor of David Boaz,” said Jacob Mchangama, Executive Director of The Future of Free Speech. “It’s a powerful reminder of how enduring principles and legacies can inspire future generations to stand up for free speech.”

This gift will support ongoing research, education, and advocacy to ensure freedom of expression remains a cornerstone of democratic societies.
