Job Description

We are seeking an intern to help The Future of Free Speech communications team produce our weekly newsletter and grow our audience. The ideal candidate would be a student or recent graduate passionate about free speech and interested in digital marketing and communications.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the communications intern would ensure that the organization’s Substack, email marketing, social media, and digital marketing strategy is successfully implemented to advance our mission.

Responsibilities
  • Writing and editing our weekly Substack newsletter — The Free Flow
  • Tracking social media metrics and campaign performance
  • Assisting with compiling and editing The Future of Free Speech’s monthly newsletter and other email marketing campaigns
  • Creating basic social media graphics or locating stock photos

Qualifications
  • Current college student or recent graduate
  • Pursuing a degree in a relevant field (communications, public policy, political science, etc.)
  • Technologically proficient and comfortable with social media platforms like X/Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram
  • Some familiarity with email marketing platforms a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

This is an unpaid internship, offering a unique chance to gain practical experience and make a tangible impact in the field of free speech advocacy. In certain cases, qualified candidates may be eligible for a modest scholarship to support their work.

This internship is ideal for students pursuing degrees in communications, nonprofit management, political science, or related fields.

You may also be eligible to receive academic credit through your university for your internship. While The Future of Free Speech cannot manage or coordinate the academic credit process, we are happy to assist by completing any required evaluations, verifying internship hours, and providing other documentation requested by your institution.
