Farzaneh Badiei is a Senior Research Fellow at The Future of Free Speech. She is an Internet governance practitioner, researcher, and advocate with nearly two decades of experience at the intersection of law, technology, and human rights. Holding a PhD in law from Hamburg University, she has conducted research at Yale Law School, Georgia Institute of Technology, and the Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society in Berlin.
Farzaneh is the founder of Digital Medusa, a boutique advisory that provides digital governance research and advocacy. Its mission is to offer objective and alternative narratives about digital governance. Her work centers on various aspects of digital governance, examining how governance systems impact freedom of expression, access to information, and digital rights globally. She also interrogates the concept of digital sovereignty, advocating for governance frameworks that prioritize human rights over state control of the Internet.
